The value of the site is determined by the natural healing resources that were the reason for the founding of the city. They are mainly mineral water with carbon dioxide, used for drinking cures and baths and gas injections. In this, the second largest spa town in the Czech Republic are within the city about fifty of them, in the vicinity around one hundred. Cold carbonated mineral water has widely varying composition and therefore allows the treatment of various diseases. The uniqueness is the treatment of the urinary tract treated with other diseases including respiratory diseases, metabolic, gynecological and oncological diseases. The important natural resources include peat bogs, which are used in a modified form in medicinal baths and wraps. Today we rank among the Marienbad spa with trans-national significance (there are at least 2000 beds and a good foundation in the long-term therapeutic spa tradition). The city is located in the geographical triangle Karlovy Vary, Marianske Lazne and Františkovy in relatively high altitude (spa center in 630 m) in the southern part of the densely wooded Slavkov forest. The local climate and its purity, therefore, has positive effects on human health.
In addition to traditional spas, in recent years they are expanding the range of wellness programs (shorter stays and recreational therapy).
The indisputable advantage of Marienbad is an inexhaustible supply of accommodations in all price ranges, from the five-star hotels to guest houses. Spas can therefore serve as a base for other activities offered by the city or its surroundings. For hiking, Nordic walking, cycling and cross country skiing in the beautiful countryside of Slavkov Forest, there are ideal conditions. The whole area features a network of well-marked hiking trails that lead visitors to interesting places and show the naturalistic landscape and historical character. Visitors will find excellent facilities for golf lovers. The Golf Course was opened in 1905 and a founding member was of the British Royalty who later became King Edward VII. In 2003 the club was granted by Queen Elizabeth II the prestigious title of Royal Golf Club.
There is also a cable car to the ski slope, swimming pools, tennis courts, squash center, and many fitness centers.
